The new Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (2021-2027), whose legal basis has recently been adopted, builds on the success of its predecessors: Europe for Citizens and Rights, Equality and Citizenship. It aims to protect and promote the rights and values enshrined in the EU Treaties and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, in order to promote open, democratic and inclusive societies based on the rule of law.
